CASTELLANA
SICULA
Castellana
Sicula is a town of about 4,300 inhabitants, located in the province
of Palermo at some 765m asl. It is divided into three main quarters,
namely Castellana Centro, Calcarelli and Nociazzi.
It
grew up in the 18th century on the area of a former feudal holding.
Its most attractive building is the Mother Church dedicated to San
Francesco di Paola.
Just
off the town, is the Grotta del Vecchiuzzo, a cave discovered in
the early 1900s, where important prehistoric relics relating to
the site of Sile di Petralia were recovered.
