Montelepre
is set at 343m asl in the province of Palermo and has a population
of some 5,500 inhabitants. It grew around a 1400’s defensive
tower built by the Archbishop of Monreale who possessed the fief.
It is renowned for being the hometown of bandit Salvatore Giuliano.
The
Chiesa Madre dedicated to Maria Santissima del Rosario and the Chiesa
di Sant’Antonio, preserving two 1600’s paintings depicting
Saint Benedict and Il sogno di Totila, are the main churches.
